Great peeps at The Live Culture Lounge in Santa Barbara. Anthony made us an amazing dinner and we shared a Bohemian Rhapsody moment after being sufficiently fed and watered. By the time we were about to hit the stage, the place was packed out. The stage was built up above everything and I kept having weird flashes while playing that it was just going to go crashing down....but it held firm of course and after some good chill time with our new SB friends, we were escorted to the beautiful Butterfly beach. In the wee morning hours we sat listening to the waves, talking about life and wondered about the story behind the capsized sailboat that had washed up on the shore. Just as we were about to get cozy in the RV.......weeeooooooo, weeeeeooooooo...po po showed up shining his big ole bright light. "Technically" you're not supposed to park over night by the beach there between 2am-5am. The nice young officer asked what we were doing and if we knew we weren't supposed to be parked there, to which I replied "yes." Then he asked what our plan was, I simply said, "well, I was sort of betting on you NOT showing up." Since we'd been drinking some two buck chuck and he could see that, he ended up just letting us stay and told us to be quiet...didn't even give us a ticket. I gave him a CD even though he said he was more of country fan.
Next morning Mikey cooked up a brilliantly delicious breakfast, a woman in a mini van ran into the RV....no damage thankfully. Took a walk on the beach and made our way to San Luis Obispo. Arrived downtown for bike night/critical mass....so awesome. Tons of folks riding in PJ's. One girl in a pink angel outfit and a dude pulling a trailer with a keg in it.
Decent gig, we played awesome, though most folks were too busy getting sauced to care too much about the music. We did fish a few new fans out of the murky waters though and actually made enough at the gig to pay for a tank of gas. Woo hoo!
Janay and I both got hugged and licked (not in THAT way) by a crazy drunk Aussie and we made our way thru the fog to find a parking spot for the night.
Now on our way to Sacramento. I'm excited for this show. Mikey's got a ton of family here. Mom's making Posole tonight and perhaps we might all get real showers....fingers crossed.
'til tomorrow, xoxoxo - Astra
